PROMOTING USE OF M&E RESULTS

This module focuses on how to promote use of M&E results to improve and strengthen programme activities. As seen in earlier modules, use of M&E results can in no way be left to the last issue on the agenda. Use of M&E is contemplated in macro level M&E planning and from the first steps in managing specific M&E activities.

In four parts, this module covers the broader institutional factors contributing to learning from M&E, the M&E report, the design of dissemination strategies and information management systems that facilitate storage and use of M&E data.

The parts – each comprised of only one session -- are quite different and are not necessarily intended to follow in sequence. They are rather geared for different audiences and training objectives.

OBJECTIVES

Participants can:

• Identify institutional factors that can contribute to better use of M&E results and understand implications for office/organisational culture, processes and systems.
• Establish common standard for reports for a specific setting, e.g. field reports, rapid assessment reports
• Identify and apply the key elements of a good results-oriented dissemination strategy for M&E activities in general, including the particular challenges of feedback and dissemination for participatory evaluation
• Describe the rationale for information management systems and common referencing standards, including in crisis and unstable contexts
• Identify database systems they can use for managing data for and from M&E

LINKS WITH OTHER MODULES

The focus on use is already introduced both in concepts of macro M&E planning (Module 2) and the management of M&E activities (Module 3, particularly Part 1, session 1). Part 2 of this module, on reports, is also an extension of sessions on presentation of data analysis in Module 6.
