OBJECTIVES

  • Participants can describe the process of defining information needs, situating the various theoretical frameworks and practical considerations in the field that come into this process.
  • Participants can situate the subsequent parts of this module or the aspects of this process that the training activity will focus on.


OUTLINE

This part is composed of one short session, providing an overview of the process of defining information needs. This overview is used to situate the content covered in subsequent parts of the module. It can also be used as a refresher or introduction in training activities focused on the management of monitoring and evaluation processes and/or on data collection methods and techniques.

  • Framing information needs: an introduction

    The facilitator draws from participants' understanding of the process of framing information needs in plenary and uses a schematic representation to introduce and situate the various theoretical and practical considerations.
    When presenting the diagram, the facilitator will highlight the different focus and relative importance of the different elements in the process in unstable and crisis contexts.
